  • Owned by Cartier Energy – a Vauban Infrastructure Partners, LLC company. DCO Energy is a minority co-investor in Hartford Steam Company

DCO operates and maintains the district energy system, which provides heating and cooling services to over 60 customer buildings in Hartford including Travelers Insurance, Hartford Hospital, Supreme Court Library, the Appellate Court and City Hall, and Institute for Living. The system includes the Downtown System, the South End system, and a 1.4 MW fuel cell at Hartford Hospital. The district energy systems began operation in 1962 (Downtown) and South End (1999).

DOWNTOWN SYSTEM

  • Chilled Water Capacity – 27,150 tons
  • 2.1 MIL gallon chilled water storage
  • Steam Capacity – 465,000 lb./hr.
  • Electric Capacity – 3.5MW CHP Plant with 80,000 lbs/hour HRSG

SOUTH END SYSTEM

  • Includes Hartford Hospital campus.
  • Electric Capacity – 7.5MW CHP Plant
  • Steam Capacity – 155,000 lb./hr.
  • Chilled Water Capacity – 1,500 tons
  • Fuel cell supports Hartford Hospital
