|Providence Landfill Gas-To-Energy Project
Rhode Island Resource Recovery Complex, Johnston, RI
ROLE: Engineering, Procurement, and Construction
CAPACITY: 33.393 MW electric power, 93,628 lbs/hr heat recovery
Rhode Island LFG Genco, LLC has retained DCO Energy LLC to engineer, procure and construct a 33.393 MW Landfill Gas to Energy Facility. The facility will be located at the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Complex, Johnston, Rhode Island. This facility will be the second largest landfill energy project in the United States.
DCO Energy, LLC is the EPC Contractor, with full responsibility for overall project management, engineering design, equipment procurement, construction permitting, construction management, construction quality assurance, start-up & commissioning, and operator training.
The Providence Landfill Gas-To-Energy Project will take landfill gas extracted from a series of wells at the landfill and use that gas in state-of-the-art combustion turbine-generators (CTGs) to make electricity for sale to the local electric grid. In addition, the exhaust from the CTGs will produce steam from waste heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), which will power a state-of the art steam turbine-generator (STG) making additional electricity for the local electric grid. Utilizing landfill gas in this manner reduces dependence on other natural resources, and improves air quality and carbon emissions.
In addition the equipment noted previously, the facility includes gas blowers for the collection of the landfill gas, two stage gas booster / compression systems, gas treatment (H2S and Siloxane removal) systems, high voltage electrical distribution equipment, and related subsystems to produce the electric power and steam stated above.
