The ACUA Landfill Gas to Energy Project is a greenfield development project. The project was developed by AC Landfill Energy LLC, a partnership between DCO Energy, LLC and Marina Energy, LLC. The project utilizes landfill gas to fuel a reciprocating engine generator set that produces electric power. DCO is providing business development, project development, project management, and construction management services. The project is scheduled to be placed in service by the end of December 2004. This energy project conforms to the requirements of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities Renewable Energy Advanced Program.
The project is located at the Atlantic County Utilities Authority's (ACUA) municipal solid waste landfill in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. The plant is environmentally beneficial due to the reduction of greenhouse gases and decreased dependence on fossil fuels.
The initial 1.6MW unit is producing approximately 11,000,000 kWh of electric energy. Approximately 2,000,000 kWh will be sold to the ACUA. The remaining 9,000,000 kWh will be sold to the electric wholesale market through the PJM Power Pool. This site is designed for a total installed capacity of 6.4 MW.
DCO personnel are operating and maintaining the project on behalf of the partnership. DCO also is responsible for operating and maintaining the gas collection and control system under a separate contract with ACUA.
