Essex County Correctional Facility

DCO Essex Energy, LLC, a special purpose entity, wholly owned by DCO Energy, is constructing a state-of-the-art Combined Heating, Chilling and Power Facility that will service the new Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, New Jersey.

DCO will operate and maintain the facility based on a 20-year contract. All the heating, cooling, domestic hot water and base load electricity will be provided by the centralized production facility.

As part of phase one, four separate buildings, one support building and three housing units, will be served by a network of distribution piping and conduit, installed by DCO. The production facilities will be capable of serving a future fifth housing unit for inmates that is planned to be added later.

The design of the production plant has been seamlessly integrated into the architecture of the complex and directly attached to the support building. A sophisticated control system will allow DCO and the correctional facility to monitor and control the HVAC systems remotely in order to optimize efficiency and detect even the most minor of fluctuations within the conditioned space areas.

This project represents the best possible application of technology and systems resulting in a public-private partnership that is energy efficient and cost effective.
