Bergen County Correctional Facility

160 South River Street, Hackensack, New Jersey

ROLE: Combined Heating Power Facility

CAPACITY: 1.3 MW Electricity, 5 MMBtu/hr Hot Water

DCO Energy, LLC is permitting, engineering, designing, and constructing a state-of-the-art Combined Heating and Power Facility (the CHP Facility) that will service the existing Bergen County Correctional Facility located in Hackensack, New Jersey. DCO will manage the operation and perform the maintenance of the facility based on a 20-year contract.

The centralized CHP Facility will provide a significant portion of the heating and domestic hot water requirements of the Jail. Existing production equipment currently in operation at the Jail will back up the CHP Facility. The CHP Facility will provide a significant portion of the base load electric energy requirements of the Jail. Reliance on the local utility for base load electric energy needs will be significantly reduced.

This project represents the best possible application of technology and systems resulting in a public-private partnership that is energy efficient and cost effective.
